FIREWORKS

These low explosive pyrotechnic rockets are used in big displays sometimes for cultural or religius celebrations. They can burn with blue, green, red, orange, yellow, purple and even silver colours. Once lit, fireworks can be produced to react at a delay before blowing up, producing loud noises, exciting colours and patterns, smoke and fire confetti!

Invented in ancient China in 12th century to ward off evil spirits, these fire crackers were invented as an extension of gunpowder (which ancient China had recently discovered). Like many other products, China is the largest manufacturer and exporter of fireworks in the world. An exmaple of an annual Chinese festival where fireworks are let off is the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival.

Fireworks are made in a special way, (usually out of paper or pasteboard tube) and usually filled with combustible material such as pyrotechnic stars.

There are the traditional fireworks that everyone knows like Catherine Wheels (burning in a wheel shape) and there are the less well known fireworks like Skyrockets and these were first used in War. Fireworks are incredible things and they are still developing nowadays, such as the latest advance in using firework technology to send mail by rocket!
